MatriScope was on-hand to witness the topping out of the new DOCO tower in downtown Sacramento! This new mixed use tower features:

The Sawyer is named after Judge Lorenzo Sawyer. Justice Sawyer served on the United States Circuit Court for the 9th Circuit from 1870-1891. In 1884, he ordered a ban on mining processes that were negatively impacting streams in the Sacramento area the surrounding farmland. The ruling, now known as the Sawyer Decision, is widely recognized as one of the first environmental protection laws in the country.

The tower is an exciting complement to the Golden 1 Center and other changes at the site, formerly known as Downtown Plaza. We look forward to watching the tower’s completion and can’t wait of the grand opening and other changes coming to the area!

MatriScope Gives Back

MatriScope employees were moonlighting as elves this holiday season at the River District’s 16th Annual Holiday Celebration.  This event provides Christmas gifts to low-income children living in the community.

MatriScope is a proud resident of the River District, located on the edge of downtown Sacramento and each year we look forward to this opportunity to help those in our community directly. In addition to helping at the event, we were given some of the children’s wishlists and allowed to select and wrap gifts for each of them.

The joy on the children’s faces was priceless. Until next year!

You may have seen that futuristic, yet rustic structure rising near the Sacramento river over in West Sacramento and wondered what it is. Wonder no more! You have discovered the hottest new indoor/outdoor event space in the area – The Barn!

The Barn is a 8,000 square foot waterfront indoor/outdoor entertainment venue with retail, lounge and restaurant. It’s unique, bridge-like organic shape was designed to seemingly defy gravity. Structured as a double cantilever, the Barn rises from two independent foundations then meets to form a canopy. The beams and trusses are constructed from glued laminated wood with intermittent steel reinforcements. The intricate structure is visible from within the two enclosed “pods” and from the exposed underside of the canopy. The shell of the structure was crafted using wood laid side-by-side in a singular direction, which created straight line generated curves. Shingle roofing was applied to finish the exterior.

The Barn has started hosting fun Friday night events hosted by Off the Grid, which brings together Street Food vendors from around the area, along with live music, cocktails and dancing. If you haven’t checked it out yet, they’ll be hosting events all season so you have plenty of opportunities coming up!
