STOCKTON PRISON HOSPITAL
CALIFORNIA HEALTH CARE FACILITY
STOCKTON, CA

California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) broke ground on the California Health Care Facility (CHCF) project located at the site of the former DeWitt Nelson Youth Correctional Facility (DWNYCF) and the former Karl Holton Youth Correctional Facility (KHYCF), on a 144-acre property in Stockton, comprised of approximately 1,159,000 square feet. The construction of the new CHCF, which is under OSHPD jurisdiction, has been broken down into four phases as follows:

DB#0: Demolition/Abatement and Site Readiness - The primary scope of this phase is the demolishment of the vacant Karl Holton Facility, removal of all hazardous materials including asbestos, lead, mercury and PCBs, and removal of underground utility infrastructure supporting the Karl Holton buildings.

DB#1: Site and Unsecured Facilities - This phase is comprised of site development including improvements to the site’s utility systems including electrical supply and distribution system, water supply, sanitary sewer system, storm drainage, natural gas, and telecommunications, as well as creation of roadway, parking, lighting, etc.

DB#2: Housing and Health Care - This phase includes the design and construction of the actual facilities, site work and utilities primarily located within the secured area.

DB#3: DeWitt Nelson - This phase includes the renovation and repurposing of the former DWNYCF in order to accommodate the new 1,722-bed inmate facility.

MatriScope provided geotechnical engineering, earthwork observation and testing, special inspections, building inspections, and construction sampling and laboratory testing related to concrete, masonry, structural steel, grout, plumbing, roofing, and spray-on fireproofing.

SONOMA VALLEY HOSPITAL RENOVATION
SONOMA, CA

The Sonoma Valley Hospital Renovation project consists of renovation and refurbishment of the 83-bed hospital to make it seismically sound before the state-mandated deadline of March 2013. The new design calls for an addition of a two-story, 16,000-square-foot, steel braced frame structure with an interior slab on grade structure. This new structure will house a new emergency department and operating room. The project also takes on the task of replacing the existing utility plant, and configuring the main loading dock.

MatriScope provided special inspection and material testing services related to reinforcing steel and anchors, concrete, concrete masonry placement, and structural steel fabrication and erection.

SONOMA VALLEY HOSPITAL
 

FRESNO VETERANS HOME OF CALIFORNIA
FRESNO, CA

The Fresno Veterans home consists of a wood-framed, 295,000 square-foot facility and will provide 300 long-term care beds for aged and disabled veterans who served honorably in the military. Located on approximately 26 acres of undeveloped land in Fresno, California, this project will provide Veterans with skilled care, residential care, and memory (dementia) care. This design-build project is pursing the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Silver New Construction certification.

MatriScope provided materials testing and special inspection services including geotechnical engineering, earthwork, asphalt concrete, reinforcing steel, concrete, masonry and structural steel. In addition, MatriScope provided building code compliance services.

FRESNO VETERANS HOME OF CALIFORNIA
 

SUTTER CASTRO VALLEY CLINIC – MEDICAL OFFICE BUILDING
CASTRO VALLEY, CA

Sutter Castro Valley Clinic is an 80,000-square-foot, four-story Medical Office Building (MOB) adjacent to and connected at each level by an open-air bridge to the New Sutter Medical Center. The MOB, built simultaneously to the new Medical Center, will be occupied exclusively by Sutter Health and is purposed for Medical Office, Clinic and Doctor’s Office spaces. The building contains a 2,500-square-foot “Urgent Care Center,” Radiology, Ultrasound, CT Scanning and Phlebotomy Lab spaces on the first floor. The second floor will be used primarily for general Medical Office Space conference/seminar space. The third and fourth floors are purposed for Doctor’s Office and Exam Room spaces – serviced by common open office. All building mechanical systems are served by standard utility power. The New MOB is designed and constructed to meet the California Building Code for Commercial Buildings requirements and will be LEED Silver certified. The core building construction design includes reinforced concrete spread footings with grade beams and a structural steel (SMRF) frame. The building skin consists of GFRC metal panels, stucco, aluminum, and glass curtain walls.
 
MatriScope provided special inspection and material testing services during the construction process related to concrete, reinforcing steel with epoxy anchors, structural steel, anchor bolts, and base plate grouting.

REDDING VETERANS HOME OF CALIFORNIA
REDDING, CA

The Redding Veterans home will consist of a wood-framed, single-story 239,000 square-foot facility and will provide 150 long-term care beds for aged and disabled veterans who served honorably in the military including 60 beds designated as residential care for the elderly, 30 memory care beds, 30 skilled nursing beds and 30 skilled nursing-memory care beds Located on approximately 26 acres of undeveloped land in Redding, California, this  project will include gardens, courtyards, a chapel, walking trails, dining areas, reading rooms, a bank, a general store, bocce ball and horseshoe pits, a parade ground, putting green, recreation rooms, a Hall of Honors, and new central energy plant. This design-build project is pursing the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Gold New Construction certification.

MatriScope performed geotechnical engineering, materials testing and inspection including earthwork, asphalt concrete, reinforcing steel, concrete, floor flatness, masonry, structural steel, and pre-fabricated steel trusses.
