NORMAL AVENUE PARKING STRUCTURE
CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, CHICO
CHICO, CA
The Normal Avenue Parking Structure project design called for a new 3 to 4-story parking structure to provide 359 automobile spaces, 11 motorcycle stalls, and 242 bicycle-parking stalls. A 1-story building adjacent to the parking structure along West 2nd Street houses the University Police Department (4,200 gross square feet) and administrative offices (3,800 gross square feet). The Design-Build project was designed to LEED silver equivalent. 15kW photovoltaic arrays atop the parking structure with trellis and infrastructure to expand.
MatriScope provided geotechnical investigation services consisting of nine (9) exploratory borings advanced to depths of 20 to 45 feet below existing ground surface. In addition, MatriScope provided a geologic hazard study, related laboratory testing, and peer review on construction documents. MatriScope’s engineering analyses on recommendations for the design and construction of the geotechnical aspects included a ground improvement aggregate columns (geo-piers) foundation. Additional scope included all earthwork observation and material testing services during the construction phase.

FIFTH
STREET PARKING GARAGE
NAPA, CA
The much needed Fifth Street Parking Garage located in Napa, CA was a design-build project utilizing cast-in-place concrete construction. The structural frame and foundation system consisted of concrete shear walls, reinforced concrete columns, post-tensioned beam and elevated slabs all transmitting vertical loads to individual spread and perimeter wall footings.
MatriScope performed construction observation related to structural concrete, masonry, and structural steel. MatriScope devoted a full-time and multi-disciplined resident inspector who had the experience to adapt to and perform under the rigors of such a complex design-build project. Additional inspectors and technicians were assigned on an as-needed basis to support peak work periods.
